About HazCalc
Safety risk assessment tools for everybody
Traditionally safety risk assessments are a complex and time consuming process. Hazard and risk identification can be difficult and many simple items can be overlooked whilst attention is spent focusing on the major hazards. Even after all hazards have been identified, rating them can be a daunting task, especially as the rating inevitably requires an amount of interpretation on the part of the assessor or assessment team.
The idea
The idea for HazCalc was started after working as an engineer and becoming frustrated with risk assessment meetings where the participants lack of formal training in hazard identification, and risk scoring methods meant that meetings generally ended up with an outcome that was less than desirable. Risk scoring was often driven only by the cost of the potential solution, and not by the hazard itself.
Over the years, I worked at improving the hazard identification and risk scoring processes employed in these meetings, and developed some simple tools to assist in this process. These started out as microsoft excel templates with basic macros to automate the process, and eventually evolved into a dedicated desktop program called HazCalc.
The products
In the past 6 years since HazCalc was launched it has evolved into a cross-platform, multi-device suite of tools that have helped many companies to realise safety management strategies that would have previously been only been available by employing expensive specialists.
Hazcalc now provides everything from a a complete safety management package for workplace safety to a simple risk calculator for use within third party risk assessment frameworks.
We like to think that our software is simple and intuitive to use, and hold the philosophy that such tools should be for assisting you to complete the task more efficiently.
The future
Our latest developments will take safety management into the future, with online tools to assist users with safety solutions, and a redevelopment of our website into an interactive and collaborative tool to provide users with access to industry best practices and case studies.
All current software packages will see a redevelopment to take advantage of new emergent technologies and employ core enhancements to improve operability and usability.
Mission statement
Put simply, our goal is to help make the world a safer place to live, one workplace at a time.
